CIMB Niaga Finances Mazda Dealers

Jakarta – PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk (“CIMB Niaga”) and PT Mazda Motor Indonesia signed a dealer financing agreement: the bank provides Mazda dealers with working capital for ordering units from MMI, Mazda’s sole and authorized agent in Indonesia.

The financing scheme agreement represents the commitment both companies have made to promote the domestic automotive industry. It gives MMI the opportunity to help Mazda dealers focus on the effort to increase sales of products and the assurance of payment to MMI. CIMB Niaga sees it as an opportunity to improve its lending portfolio for the automotive sector and strengthen its position in the automotive value chain.

Handoyo Soebali, Business Banking Director of CIMB Niaga said: “We are optimistic that sales in 2010 will be higher than 2009. Supporting our confidence are factors which include improving Indonesian economy and people’s higher purchasing power. CIMB Niaga will therefore focus on the automotive sector for its 2010 credit growth. We will in the future work on similar arrangements with other sole and authorized agents in the country.”

The bank is confident of an improved automotive lending portfolio as credit growth for the sector has been on the positive side. As at 30 September 2009, for instance, it has extended a motor vehicle loan total of Rp 7.5 trillion, 25% higher than last year’s figure. It accounts for 33% of CIMB Niaga’s retail credit total.

Yoshiya Horigome, President Director of MMI shares the same confidence that Indonesia’s automotive industry is growing. ”Despite economic challenges, the country’s automotive industry remains one of the most potential and the strongest to survive future crises among other South-East Asian markets. Last year, when conditions were quite difficult, Mazda came out with the initiative to provide financing support for its authorized dealers in a plan for business development and dealer network expansion following the launch of Mazda’s major product: the World Car of the Year – the New Mazda2.

MMI warmly welcomed its collaboration with CIMB Niaga, aimed to accelerate the expansion of Mazda dealer networks and the development of its business in Indonesia.

“While giving a boost to Mazda’s business expansion, the initiative is also contributing positively to stimulate the growth of the automotive industry as it is set to satisfy the needs of our partner dealers. Mazda is indeed holding to its long-term commitment to this initiative and very proud to have CIMB Niaga as its strategic partner
